Position Summary

Under the direction of a Sr. Manager or Manager in the Provider Compliance and Reimbursement department, the Senior Consultant will assist clients in claiming Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement by preparing annual cost reports and payment reconciliations and supporting them through the audit process. They will be mentored by a Partner as well as the Sr. Manager/Manager and will interface regularly with clients and others within and outside of the firm. They will mentor Consultants in their training and development and help shape the delivery of services in accordance with firm policies and procedures.




  • Collect data from clients in an efficient manner to minimize client effort
  • Prepare Medicare/Medicaid cost reports and payment reconciliations for a variety of providers and programs – Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Rural Health Clinics (RHCs), PPS and critical access hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, etc.
  • Peer-review Medicare/Medicaid cost reports prepared by other Sr. Consultants/Consultants
  • Initiate the rate-setting process for FQHCs and RHCs and over time help clients obtain final rates
  • Represent clients during Medicare/Medicaid audits, provide auditors with documentation and respond to their questions
  • Develop good working relationships with 10-20 clients and maintain them over the years as the firm provides ongoing service to them every year
  • Explain the results of our work to the clients as well as the impacts of audit adjustments, and advise them on how to respond
  • Plan and manage a workload of multiple projects with the same deadlines during the semi-annual busy seasons
  • Accurately record time spent to enable efficient client billing
  • Initiate communications with other Associates early when workload or technical issues/problems arise
  • Create an engaging relationship with all members of the PCR team
  • Help the team to provide services efficiently that results in profitable engagements for the firm
  • Look for opportunities to exceed client expectations by delivering outstanding service, identifying opportunities to improve payments or compliance, etc.
  • Seek out opportunities to leverage other service offerings to solve other client issues
  • Mentor junior team members and help support their continuing education needs
  • Build team member confidence in their capabilities to deliver work
  • Participate in trade or professional organizations that contribute to personal growth and/or the firm's commitment to the healthcare industry (e.g., Healthcare Financial Management Association)
  • Actively participate with opportunity leaders or regional teams in business development activities involving new clients and/or new services


  • 3-5 year’s healthcare accounting or financial consulting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, or appropriate credential, or comparable experience in accounting, finance, business or Information Technology
  • Prior experience in Medicare/Medicaid reporting and California Medi-Cal reimbursement is preferred
  • Ability to figure out new issues regarding Medicare/Medicaid payment methods and carry out independent research on healthcare topics
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate, as well as the ability to accomplish multiple objectives
  • Excellent mentoring skills to help other staff and the ability to pass on advanced knowledge and skills to others
  • Global knowledge regarding healthcare operations, law, regulations, and accreditation requirements is preferred
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of computers, experience with word processing and spreadsheet applications specific to their area of expertise
