Wipfli LLP is seeking a Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist to support clients across the firm. Under the direction of the Payroll Processing Supervisor, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related client service, including recordkeeping and reporting. Position will work to improve processes in accordance with Firm policies and procedures


  • Responsible for administering and processing payroll for clients and maintain information as required
  • Process all time and attendance and personnel transactions such as new hire, termination, leave of absence, benefits deductions, garnishments, etc.
  • Vendor transactions including, flexible spending, 401(k), etc.
  • Prepare and maintain related payroll records and reports.
  • Process State and Federal taxes, including quarter and year-end reconciliations
  • Make federal tax deposits for clients using ETPS and State websites for withholding and state unemployment reports
  • Review/reconcile client IRS and state Department of Revenue notices
  • Make state payroll deposits for clients by check and/or online payments
  • Provide/prepare workers compensation audits as requested
  • Research and resolve problems, perform scheduled activities, and liaison with service providers
  • Prepare and maintain standard and ad hoc reports, queries, and conduct appropriate audits to ensure data integrity
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Document workflow and work procedures
  • Other duties as needed or requested


  • Associate Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Preferably 2 years of payroll/bookkeeping experience
  • Familiarity with processing payroll and payroll laws
  • Experience using database systems
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively
  • Ability to balance many projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure and time deadlines
  • Ability to analyze data and recommend solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Quick Books
