Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for building and leading a world-class QA organization that ensures our firm's technology systems—including client-facing portals, internal applications, data analytics platforms, and consulting tools—deliver flawless, secure, and compliant experiences. They willestablish testing frameworks, drive quality culture across the organization, and partner closely with Technology, Practice, and Client Service teams to maintain our reputation for excellence and trust.

 

The Director, Quality Assurance is a forward-thinking leader with deep expertise in quality practices within complex technology environments, demonstrates  strong people leadership, and drives a culture of excellence consistent with the Wipfli Way and firm values. 

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an enterprise‑wide QA strategy encompassing functional, integration, security, compliance, data integrity, and user acceptance testing.
  • Establish firmwide quality standards, testing frameworks, and KPIs aligned to business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with technology, product, and practice leadership to embed quality throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Serve as a key liaison with development teams to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and testable.
  • Own release management for internal and client‑facing systems, including regression testing, production readiness, and post‑release validation.
  • Lead security and compliance testing efforts to meet regulatory and data privacy standards (e.g., SOC 2, SOX, CCPA).
  • Modernize quality practices through test automation, CI/CD integration, and shift‑left testing methodologies.
  • Design and implement automated testing frameworks across web, mobile, API, cloud, and data platforms.
  • Improve release reliability by optimizing defect lifecycle management, test coverage, and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and auditability of financial systems, reporting tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Provide actionable insights through quality metrics, dashboards, and post‑release analysis to inform decision‑making.
  • Lead, mentor, and engage QA and testing teams, fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 
  • 12+ years of progressive QA/QE experience in technology environments 
  • 7+ years leading teams, including manager level leaders and individual contributors  
  • Deep expertise in test automation frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Appium, or similar)  
  • Strong understanding of enterprise applications, financial systems, and cloud-based platforms  
  • Experience with security testing, vulnerability assessments, and compliance validation  
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and modern software development practices  
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and version control systems  
  • Understanding of data quality testing, ETL processes, and business intelligence platform validation  
  • Experience with compliance and regulatory testing requirements (SOC 2, SOX, CCPA)  
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certifications in quality assurance or software testing (ISTQB, CSTE)  
  • Security certifications (CISSP, CISM)  
  • Proven experience in professional services, financial services, or highly regulated industries   
  • Experience with Workday ERP testing and implementation  
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales & Marketing testing and configuration  
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architecture  
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing (WCAG compliance)  
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, Splunk)  
  • Background in testing tax software, audit platforms, or consulting engagement management systems  
  • Understanding of accounting systems and financial reporting requirements  
  • Experience with AI/ML testing or implementing AI-driven testing solutions

Wipfli values fair, transparent, and competitive compensation, considering each candidate's unique skills and experiences. The estimated base pay range for this role is $156,000 to $210,000, with offers typically not made at the maximum, allowing for future salary increases. The actual salary at the time of offer depends on business related factors like location, skills, experience, training/education, licensure, certifications, business needs, current associate pay, and relevant employment laws. 

 

Individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, subject to participation rules and based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual and Firm performance.
